Abbey Sharp is a Registered Dietitian (RD), an avid food writer and blogger, a TV and radio personality, a food brand ambassador, a passionate home cook, a food event hostess, and the founder of Abbey’s Kitchen Inc. She has a BASc. in Nutrition and Food, completed her Dietitians of Canada accreditation, and has extensive culinary training. Balancing the ideological demands of being a foodie and dietitian, Abbey understands that food represents so much more than mere nutrients, numbers, calories, and portions. Rather, to Abbey, eating is an expression of culture, family, love, identity, and sensuality. With its role in such a variety of delicious domains, Abbey believes that a pleasurable relationship with food is inherently essential for good health. This unique philosophy helps break the common association of healthy food as boring and bland, and demonstrates instead, its satisfying, flavorful and sexy qualities.
Abbey has used this philosophy in developing Abbey’s Kitchen Inc., a multifaceted food media brand based primarily (though not exclusively) in Toronto, Canada. Abbey’s Kitchen Inc. has become a trustworthy site for hungry consumers across the GTA and abroad, looking for restaurant and product reviews, fun foodie webisodes, information on local food events, and delicious healthy recipes. Abbey has worked with a number of popular food companies as a celebrity Brand Ambassador on various hosting and event activations, TV and radio segments, and her popular blog. The Abbey’s Kitchen brand also encompasses external writing contributions for Eat St. Food Network Canada, Toronto Standard magazine, On the Go Magazine, The McEwan Group, and Yorkshire Valley Farms, as well as Cook! Cookbook (Dietitians of Canada, 2011), Acquired Taste Magazine (Spring, 2013), Journal of Critical Dietetics (2012), and numerous online and print food and nutrition articles. Some of her TV and radio experience includes expert and guest features on the The Marilyn Denis Show, Proud FM, Dr. Marla & Friends (CTV), Eat St., You Gotta Eat Here, and Renters Guide, as well as a TEDx talk regarding the social, cultural and sensual roles of food. Abbey is also the star of her own online food webisode series, Abbey’s Kitchen, which can be viewed from her website and on YouTube.
Beginning in 2013, Abbey developed, organized and hosted the highly successful event series, Abbey’s Kitchen Stadium (AKS). AKS showcased the GTA’s hottest chef talent, while raising funds and awareness for local food and nutrition initiative, My Food My Way. The Top Chef style event series brought the season to a close with a bang, as Abbey hosted the finale on the Food Network Celebrity stage at the 2013 Delicious Food Show. She has also been hosted a variety of local food events including McEwan All Access alongside celebrity chef Mark McEwan.
In the months ahead, Abbey is looking forward to hosting AKS 2.0, the AKS Pavilion and the Food Network celebrity stage at the 2014 DFS.
